Marcus knew that his first 30 days out would determine his trajectory. Using the 30-60-90 Day Reentry Plan from Issue 1, he mapped out exactly what needed to happen each week — starting with his state ID and ending with a job offer.
He reached out to a local Michigan Works! office in his first week and enrolled in a two-week construction safety certification program. By week three, he had interviewed with three companies using the resume template from the magazine, which highlighted the vocational training he completed while incarcerated as real, relevant experience.
Marcus was hired as a laborer within 30 days — and within a year, he was promoted to foreman, now mentoring other returning citizens joining the crew. "I didn’t need anyone to hand me anything," Marcus says. "I just needed a clear plan and someone to believe it was possible. That’s what this magazine gave me."
